Australian Doctors International
Beat Medical is proud to partner with Australian Doctors International as part of the Beat Revolution program, providing free of charge recruitment services, advice, and support.
Australian Doctors International is a not-for-profit, non-government medical aid organisation that is working to raise the standard of health for people in the remote Western Province of Papua New Guinea. The need is great: communicable diseases account for about half of all deaths in PNG, while the average doctor must service over 7,900 people.
Since 2002, ADI has deployed 19 volunteer doctors on 25 assignments to North Fly District. Doctors are based in the port town of Kiunga and are responsible for three things: (i) daily rounds at Kiunga Hospital, where there has been no permanent doctor for four years; (ii) outreach patrols to remote aid posts and health centres; and (iii) medical training of community health workers and health education of local villagers.
Volunteer doctors are also sometimes requested to assist with ADI's treatment and control programs on malaria, filariasis, leprosy and HIV/AIDS.
